Ok so after crunching numbers and all that fun stuff I determined I would be able to offer Unmetered webspace for ridiculously low price. I'm gonna say this is most likely an industry first(haven't really looked into it to be honest). Ready for the price? How does $24.99 sound? Could drop as low as $18.99 if you sign for 2 years and act quickly(this offer will only last for 5 days starting on Dec. 10th). The catch is, this is for one domain only. We will be offering reseller/multi-domain accounts later on which will be either pro-rated for what you use or a flat monthly rate (ETA late March early April).
We are also going to be selling servers for as cheap as we can. We are trying for around $200-300. So all you dedicated game hosters you will finally be able to get a dedicated box for extremely cheap. We will also be leasing these servers with dedicated bandwidth.
So if you are interested in our unmetered hosting PM me or post here and I'll send you a coupon code.
It's smarter to use a VPS for the game server, and a webserver for the site.
Godaddy offers VPS' for $60 a month. Webserver, I have no idea about.
Unmetered, I don't think $18-25 would be all that expensive though.
Actually the $18-25 is extremely cheap and will most likely bite me in the ass. However the rackspace I rent and the hardware I purchased are paid off for 2 years and 6 months (got a wicked deal on the co-location). So you don't need to worry about us going under if you sign a 2 year contract. I've already written all costs off as loss and if I make 5% in return I will consider it to be a good investment and stay in permanently.
As for the VPS it on average costs $60 a month, but you are sharing a single server with usually around 10 other people and give equal share of RAM and CPU. Which means if you go over 10% of either they shut you down without a moments notice. Purchasing a small box equipped to handle what you need it to right off the bat for around $200-300 and you OWN it. Which means you can even turn around and VPS the thing if you wanted. If you don't need a server? A couple of quick tweaks on our end and you have an affordable workstation.
@ Rezeyu
The diskspace is also metered at that company.
Verrigan pays $60 a month for a dedicated VPS.
It's got 512MB of ram, 2+GHz AMD, and a 1Gbps internet connection.
60 is for a dedicated. Meaning, nobody else uses it.
A Ruby on Rails Dedicated is only 60 bucks for a 1Gig RAM, 2.8 ghtz.
Read the TOS always before ordering anything, Over here at Speed-Frag we don't over sell. Dedicated servers starting at $110, and VPS will soon be up and going(Starting at $15.99). And since we are dedicated to gaming we promise great ping rates and True %99.9 Uptime in less an act of god or a scheduled maintenance comes along. There is such thing as Unmetered basically they just don't watch your in and out connections. And its open to a certain point a 10mbps Unmetered is usually like 4gb/month in traffic. No I am not trying to sell you on anything nor am I trying to hijack your post but just a few useful tips. But really running a game server(IE. CS:S or your own MIRAGE BASED SERVER) takes up and down rates which = your monthly charge. CS:S at 32 players only runs me about 250-400gb per month. (Including when people aren't in server etc) With bandwidth it is alright to oversell because, in less someone uses upto there amount there is allot of leeway. But as long as the server has control of there bandwidth flow and can burst if they need to all users shall be fine. Go with a company who knows what there doing and doesn't charge some ridiculously low price. Support/Security/Speed are key the three s's of the industry.
btw Speed-Frag is still under development, integrating the Control Panels with billing and support is time consuming. But I want to get it right the first time!

EDIT. PS. You dont own a server, in less you co locate you don't own it. You lease it, your a server "Leasing" Company. You only own the software/data that you hold on the server. But I know dave knows that I was just making it clear to the original poster. My tos explains you do not own the server we do, we manage it, we take care of it in case you mess something up. Kind of like leasing a car, you pay a month for it, you have it you can basically do what you want for it, you break it we fix it we charge. Ahh things in this industry get so confusing to some people who are starting out.
Actually according to the hosting standards association. %99.99 uptime guarantees is only time that is not planned to be down. But everything self updates and make sure there is no reboot needed, and if so it will ask you for confirmation. Which is a 2-5 minute downtime. Which in my 3 or 4 years of working in this sector has never happened. Cpanel updates it self on scripts, really only if there is a MAJOR security update is when a reboot is needed.
