I doubt that...I'm not sure when FF2 came out (don't feel like googling it), but I've played old MUDs that had proficiency systems...and text based games probably came before FF2...but not sure.
The original FF2 was for the NES, only in Japan. It was released in 1988 on the Famicom/NES.
I was 2 years old when the game came out. That's before the personal computer and what not. So, I think it was the first game to have the proficiency system.
