I really don't see the point. We're all in different time zones anyway, and when we are on it's a lot easier to use something that can run from a browser, like GTalk, rather than having to install some software.
Basically: GTalk application when at home, GTalk browser when at work/school/elsewhere. Having a custom VB6 app for chatting is pointless, especially when things like IRC exist.
