Actually, it blts the bar to below the NPC...
And, if you are just blting to the backbuffer, how does DX blt to the surface. Does it always blt to the surface if you blt to the backbuffer?
Also, I do have some background in programming, not a great deal though. Just use regular terms and if I don't understand I'll ask.
