I honestly don't know if I'm even allowed to post this at all on mirage forums. So if it is a problem notify me and I will delete this ASAP.

Anyways. Some of you may know that I run a data storage business for business is the Wisconsin and Illinois metropolitan areas. But recently I purchased a new server and I am thinking about getting into web hosting. Before I invest too much I would like to see what it is like when I get a larger list of clients. So the plan? $1 web hosting. Month-to-month contract free. What you get is as follows:

500 MB Disk Space
3000 MB of transfer
You can host 1 domain
Have up to 15 email accounts
3 MySQL database
1 FTP account
CPanel management system
Fantastico DeLuxe (I think we are allowing around 55 scripts, some are blocked due to security)
Site Builder with over 300 templates (very nice for getting your site up in 10 minutes, especially if you don't know web design)

Additional databased available for $0.25 and $0.15 each if you want 5 or more. You can also host another domain for $0.25. The package already comes with all the features that your typical $5-50 packages come with. If you would like more of something it can most likely be added for $0.25 or less (discounts in bulk).

This is just a small peak into this plan of mine. I plan for launch around January 1st, but if I have enough interest I could be motivated to get into this sooner. Theres no point really when Godaddy and other major hosting companies offer really cheap massive packages. I was also thinking about doing this alittle while ago.

Well with Godaddy you get exactly that. Cheap. The reason I setup this server was because I just got fed up with the terrible support from Godaddy, hostgator and others. I figure I got the space might as well give it a shot. Plus how much of that massive package are you actually using? You could save yourself the money and just get what you need.

On a side note. After reviewing that package 1GB does seem a little small for bandwidth. So what kind of bandwidth do you guys burn up in a month? And your average disk space?

The $1 dollar plan is geared more to the people who are just starting out and is a very inexpensive way to do so. Also as far as I know we will be the only company offering this package without a contract. Anyways I have modified the package it is as follows.

Disk space has never really been a problem for me. I don't know how somebody could use 1gb of space on a Mirage based game website.

I go through about 60 GB bandwidth a month on vbGORE, about 20% of that is from PNGs, 8.5% from PHP pages and about 60% from files (zip/rar/exe/7z). So even factoring out the file downloads, thats 24 GB at ~1.2-1.3 million hits a month. So 1 GB would give you enough for a very small site with very few files, but nothing more.

I myself store other things that don't pertain to the game itself on the space. Why have it, and not use it?

That's really not a bad deal for $1 a month. But you're really not gonna make much money off of it, when you think about it in the long run.

It prolly wouldn't even cover the cost per month for the electric being used. It really depends on how many people you get..

Don't forget this is a server I purchased. And rest assured, it is no lightweight.

Server Specs:
Hyper-Threaded Dual Xeon 2.8Ghz
2GB (upgradable)
multiple 1Gbps backbones (6 currently looking into a 7th and 8th)
Power Backup including generators
4 Tier Security
Server Load currently floating at 0.01%

I cannot stress this final fact enough. WE WILL NOT EVER EVER EVER over populate. I will be running my site off this same server and will not let myself or anyone else suffer.

New launch date to be posted soon. (unofficially it looks like December 7th)
