#1
I was gonna use Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition, but I was just wondering if that was going to work.

If you can convince your PC to ignore the fact .NET and 6 are two completely different foundations of BASIC then sure.

Now it just closes whenever I try to open the source in it and says the object library isn't registered.

Funny. I already tried, but I was just wondering what the best solution was, since I got a lot of different answers via google.

Install the libraryfiles (search the forums, you'll find them), also register the dx7vb.dll file and what not.

If that don't work, do what every other new person does and give up. Or learn to research.
