I could see this going in a comic-style rpg. Not sure how it will work with an MS game but given a really cool sprite set and tiles, it could work

Kingdom of Loathing anyone? I'd love to see a game made with those pictures.

Just make those ugly grey boxes transparent, and make the game fullscreen by default, and you got yourself a game!

I just put the boxes there so you know it's a chat window or whatever. I was planning to make the whole thing like this, sprites, spells, items, the whole gambit.

I had this idea for a while...just to do silly drawn stuff on paint.

My first game was like this. I didn't want it to be.
And now an idea: Since it is pretty obvious you copy-pasted those boxes, why don't you put a different box around each item picture, and then get rid of the box on the gui. This will help with the "its crappy" feel.

A hand-drawn GUI could be interesting, just not in that style.
