Ok so I've been absent from Mirage stuff in awhile but since I've had like 3 months break after finishing college and a small European tour with my band I'm back in heh!

Ok so like, I've decided to go for a simple little look and graphics style.

Whatever happens it will be something close to rpg maker sprites and tiles, hopefully can find some good originals out there.

Here's a sample of what my game IS gonna look like (graphics wise, pretty much final).

So basically I'm using Mirage Source which has been optimized, un-bugged so just packed full of awesomeness! Runs at a solid constant smooth 32 frames (looks fantastic when playing).

has nothing particularly original as of yet since the graphics engine has been worked on to support these sprites correctly and so forth.

I'm keeping the game basic and simple in ideas but I may need some help with a lil' GUI Wink

Nothing too snazzy just something that would fit the graphics style/theme. If anyone wants to help me out gimmie a buzz on MSN...

Comments and criticism ftw.

I need to rip more of the tiles and edges though I can't see mto work it out though since I'm t3h sux.

aww whats up Robin? Sad

I'm not using Essence anyway 'cus it aint gonna be ready for years XD so i decided to do some work myself heh and use my own source instead :mrgreen:

Stop fucking ignoring me when I explain things.

Essence Version 1 & 2, the Dx7 releases, are fine for making games. Especially the 'classic' style that you're going for.

Essence Version 3, the Dx8 release, will be released when I get it done. It's not too far off before release, but it's not gonna be feature-packed. If you want to use Version 3, go learn Vb6 so you can code it.

Essence is good but I'm learning on my own through trial and error and screwing up my source every 3 mins.

I also just updated the first post with a new lil feature, its very crappy and basic but it's a start for me.

chatting with an npc in a box lol...

Then don't go say you're not using my engine because it's development is slow. There are two perfectly good releases already ;D

Anyways yeah I do plan to get something going with this... Just have to get a few things done yet, then sort them damn tiles out properly and then finally get a small little UI done.

Like in the pic with my crappy npc chat the GUI is alright but doensn't fit the theme as good. I'll have to get some help from someone pro Wink

ok so after a few days of work the game has come a heck of a long way!

First of all I would like to just show off the chat interface. It's all blitted and can be minimized and scrolled through etc.

As you can see it uses the same style and graphic files as the main tiles and sprites so it fits together really nice in my opinion.

If only I could make it semi transarent heh!

Well I hope you like the look of it so far! there's gonna be more to come soon!

lol a good point. Well I'm thinking of different ways to avoid problems.

PK-ing wont really be a big deal in the game since It's not something I've enjoyed (except in arenas etc).

I am gonna look into making it tansparent. I know it can be done as Robin has shown me but it's like it's insanely slow and laggy heh. Ah well.

NO IT ISN'T.

Compared to normally rendering, yes it is. Stop being such a nazi over your fps. A game with alpha-blending is still playable.

No... my uncapped fps dropped down, but it was still a smooth 32.

I was also using a shitty .dll I found in a photoshop-style rendering program.
