One idea - geoffrey - 15-08-2006

Hi everybody , i was thinking about an offline map editor

Is there any easy way to make it?

I think we have to delete all packets and make it in the same program , so copy many subs and functions.

If anyone hav a better idea

And how would it send the finnished work to the server if its offline?... . KInda useless if you ask me, you can just map and then not just save the work and you will have the same effect lol xD.

Or maybe, and mapeditor that saves the maps in files?.. THen u can kinda like upload them when server is online? XD

Yeah dude what your saying would be pretty pointless, and if you where to make it, you wouldent need to deleate any packets, unless your trying to remove the map editor from the client, but that would be even more pointless....

Actually an offline mapeditor(one not built into the game) is much more secure. If its built into the game, its easy for someone to send their client the correct packets to open the editor and see the details of a map(sometimes it would give them an advantage, like finding out where a hidden key might be)

Of course making a random packet name would help, but if they know a mapper....they could still find that.

And a better way to work as a team because the server wont have to be online to map xD

yeah , if the serveur is offline, a mapper in the team would map and send the new map to his friend and put it in the maps folder.
So , the mappers would not be dependant of the admin server anymore

You'd have to be very carefil if you make the map editor offline, since theres the possibility of two people mapping on the same map, or offline editor not having upto date version map and similar stuff like that

You'll have to work something out that'll keep mappers making multiple copys like perhaps having access to a certain range of maps

I would find making a seperate online map editor to be easier personally

Client With Mapeditor and Client Without. :?:

You would have the offline map system in the server folder.
