Took your advice and did a google search on shading.

Here's what I came up with

Made the shoulders bigger and added abs

Im not so sure.
Needs a lot more shading/texturing though.

Well I guess it depends on the type of tree / style / etc. Even though, it still looks good. Better than what I can do possibly (haven't tried with anything bigger than 16x16 Big Grin).
