What do you think? GUI + Map - Leighland - 28-07-2006 Well, I finally gained the courage to attempt to map something lol. So here it is... ![]() Also, what do you think of my GUI? It's pretty basic, but that's what the result of an hour in Paint was :p The blank red box there is where the who's online list and friend list pop up, as well as the inventory and spells. Flame away![/img] - Robin - 28-07-2006 That red makes my eyes water :'( It too bright, the font is hard to read, and having some shading, or gadient style colour would make it look a lot better (also, tone down the colour!) The map is quite poor. When did you last see a big tree (alone) next to some sort of path, with a 6 story cave near it? Your mapping skills need some more work (cliffs do not look like that!!!) and the gui is quite poor. sorry if I sound a bit harsh, but I really think you should re-design it, or get someone who know's what they are doing. (also, unless doing pixel work, paint is really not the best tool to use. Download GIMP) - Forgotten - 28-07-2006 I was actually in the process of writing something along the lines of what Kite said but I ended up just canceling it because I didn't wanna feel like a prick. Thanks for saying it for me, Kite! ![]() Things this needs.. 1) Something more effecient then Paint.... 2) A mapper.... 3) All the above. ya... - Robin - 28-07-2006 Forgotten Wrote:I was actually in the process of writing something along the lines of what Kite said but I ended up just canceling it because I didn't wanna feel like a prick. Thanks for saying it for me, Kite! ROFL! Well... someone had to say it. - Dark Echo - 29-07-2006 Mapping is alright for a beginner, but you could definately do with some work.. You probably want to have a look at some random photos of real life scenery.. This may help, i dont know.. The main problem with your map would be that it looks much too man-made.. This is one thing that makes mapping hard, trying to make it look natural, but also making it look like theres something that has/or will alter the environment.. If that makes any sense.. The gui on the other hand is a good first atempted.. I would just say to try and find a 'better' program to make your gui.. Paint seems much too limited for a gui.. Your layout isnt bad though, i like the layout of the gui.. But again, it could do with a font change, etc.. Keep up the good work.. - Leighland - 29-07-2006 Thanks for the comments, negative and positive. Hard to do this all by yourself ![]() Anyways... back to work I go... - Matt - 29-07-2006 If you need any help, message me on aim or msn, I can help you. - Reece - 29-07-2006 Mapping FTW!!! (Just got off CSS :|) What people dont do is make the GUI around the tiles. The tile set your using makes the game bright so you need a darker GUI so it focus more on your mapping. - Leighland - 29-07-2006 Well, I got a nice textured GUI from advocate last night, thank you a lot ![]() ![]() Getting better? - Misunderstood - 29-07-2006 that much red=bad :\ For the map, its too plain for me. Stay away from making square or straight objects on map(well for natural things anyway) such as your cliff. might wanna add a dirt part or more bushes or trees as well. - Leighland - 29-07-2006 Misunderstood Wrote:that much red=bad :\ Noted How is this for too much red? lmao http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/5453 ... rf6.th.png And what do you guys think of this menu? Pretty basic but I like it: ![]() - Gilgamesch - 29-07-2006 this looks a lot better....but its still too empty, btw, red makes the players aggresive ![]() - Leighland - 29-07-2006 Gilgamesch Wrote:this looks a lot better....but its still too empty, btw, red makes the players aggresive Well i might, i added all kinds of nifty features that i been wanting to try lmao - Misunderstood - 29-07-2006 much better gui, its not as bad when its black, its pretty simple. I could tolerate it, but it doesnt really pop out saying 'I rock'(yes awesome guis do speak xD) Its not terrible though. It takes practice to get really good. I'm not sure what to suggested to fix it though The map is better ![]() - Matt - 29-07-2006 I feel you should keep it as plain as possible, so your players dont sit there and stare at your gui, instead of playing your game. - Nexarcon - 30-07-2006 I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to sit there and stare at a gui instead of playing the game, lol. - Gilgamesch - 30-07-2006 Nexarcon Wrote:I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to sit there and stare at a gui instead of playing the game, lol. that is exactly what i thought lol ^^ - Misunderstood - 30-07-2006 I bet advocate's done it before ![]() - Matt - 30-07-2006 Haha. No. But I have had players on OLoR, log on, and never level, when I messaged them and asked what they were doing, they said they were looking at the gui. I told them to take a screenshot, instead of wasting space. So, I havn't done it, but some of my old players have. - Misunderstood - 30-07-2006 They are pathetic ![]() - Matt - 30-07-2006 Well, I turned myself invisible, and warped to them, and checked the logs, they were literally doing nothing. - Gilgamesch - 30-07-2006 Dave Wrote:statisticlly, people spend less time looking at dark colored websites, perhaps it's the same with GUIs? thats interristing :O - Anarchy - 31-07-2006 i see that text way to much ![]() - Spodi - 31-07-2006 Gilgamesch Wrote:Dave Wrote:statisticlly, people spend less time looking at dark colored websites, perhaps it's the same with GUIs? Dark colored websites also look less professional typically in my opinion. - Suki - 15-08-2006 Red doesn't need to be bad or anything...If you make it a Mass PK game the gui suits in it lol ![]() |
