I'm kinda in the middle here. I'm fine with DX7 but I wan't to see what I can do with DX8.

You will probably learn more, that is good for you. DX7 is just not used anymore, It's waaay old. It dates from 1999/2000.
Not saying that DX8 is new (it's from 2000/2002), but it supports (remember, it supports, you don't need to use the features if you don't want to) so many features that you can basically do anything with it. The code do change but it changes for better.

As I've said, the people around here fear change. I don't wanna use 8 because I just don't see the need for it in my games. 7 does everything I need and want it to do. So, no point in changing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Wink

That goes against the programmer mentality. "If it isn't broken, keep programming until it is"

Haha. That's true, sad, but true. XD

Well for #1 I was merely saying that people who are part of this community who want nothing more than to copy paste codes should be using eclipse because its all done for them lol.

And yes, you have a really good point, I can agree with it 100% but in the end isn't all of this considered to be "older". I think we should be working with .NET. I know there was a few that started but I wasn't around to see any get completed or maybe I missed something...

Agreed. Dot Net for the win!

Wrong actually, .NET has an Overly complex nature wich can scare off all of the Newbies wich we all love(or hate).
And i find C#/Vb.net a pain.

VB.NET isn't that much harder than VB6. If you can learn VB6, why can't you learn .NET? This would give people a reason to want to learn .NET, a newer and more useful language.

Re: Mirage source Dx8 or dx7 - Doomy - 27-07-2009

i think .net is better then vb6

You keep saying that, back it up with something please?
You're just punctuating actual debate with unqualified statements. :geek:

Re: Mirage source Dx8 or dx7 - jsventor - 27-07-2009

.NET won me over as soon as I could throw a png on a form. The syntax isn't to much different from VB6 there is just a few things in there that are chinese to me, but people would benefit A LOT more learning basics, and graphics in a newer language because in the real world that is probably most likely what we are using today.

I suppose you would have us all learn FreeBasic, right fanboy?

Its a personal opinion

ROFLMAO!!!
Let's all learn Fortran77!
FORTRAN77 FTW!

LOL!

Omg...

oh, damn, well, now seriously...

.Net is better for the simple fact that is fits our needs better. It was developed (and still is) for quick and easy development.
The focus on the .Net Framework is the ability to develop very fast, mainly due to the IDE, which rlz so much.
The .Net Framework is nothing but an evolution of VB6, extremely improved and upgraded, that fits our needs better. It fits our needs better. It! fits! better! Got it, punk?

What about Lua? It's pretty fast.

Re: Mirage source Dx8 or dx7 - Labmonkey - 29-07-2009

stop naming every single programming language you failed to make your game in.

I'm not, If i named every single one the server would crash.

Stop acting like you're able to tell people what to do here. Lua is a very powerful scripting system MOST online games use these days.

Yeah, you. You need to watch what you post. You're on watch for the bullshit you pull and I have no problem giving you the warning or two you deserve before you get the ban you deserve.

Re: Mirage source Dx8 or dx7 - Joost - 30-07-2009

Matt is right and wrong. Lua is a great script tool, and huge games such as WoW use it. But as a mod, it feels like he's encouraging the conflict in public and acting big with his skills, instead of sending a nice PM. Attacking someone in public like that'll probably lead to a response from him =).
